FoxFilter Lock

Help prevent FoxFilter from being easily removed or disabled. Free for all FoxFilter users.

We help address a common challenge with browser extensions — the ability for users to quickly turn them off or uninstall them.

FoxFilter Lock is a separate, optional tool that works alongside the FoxFilter extension. It uses commonly-used browser and system policy controls to help reduce the likelihood of removal or disabling of FoxFilter across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows and Mac.

While no software can guarantee complete prevention of removal or bypass, FoxFilter Lock adds an extra layer of protection to support more consistent filtering.

Step 1: Download FoxFilter Lock

Download the FoxFilter Lock tool to your computer. This is a small, free file that applies the lock to all your browsers at once.

I acknowledge and agree that FoxFilter Lock is provided "as-is" by Inspired Effect LLC, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

I understand that FoxFilter Lock is a best-effort tool designed to modify browser extension settings, and does not guarantee prevention of access, disabling, circumvention, or exposure to any specific content.

I acknowledge that no filtering or locking software is foolproof, and that this tool may be bypassed, disabled, misconfigured, or rendered ineffective due to user actions, system changes, third-party software, updates, or other factors beyond the control of Inspired Effect LLC.

I understand that FoxFilter is not a substitute for supervision, administrative controls, organizational policies, or responsible device and network management.

I accept full responsibility for the installation, configuration, monitoring, and use of this tool, including any outcomes resulting from its use or misuse.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Inspired Effect LLC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, including but not limited to loss of data, business interruption, system issues, or exposure to content, arising from the use or inability to use this tool.

I further acknowledge that Inspired Effect LLC cannot guarantee the integrity or security of this file after download and is not responsible for any issues arising from its use, modification, or redistribution by third parties.


Step 2: Run It

Windows

  1. Find the downloaded file (foxfilter-lock.bat).
  2. Right-click it and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Windows will ask "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" — click Yes. (This is safe — it only updates your browser settings to lock FoxFilter in place.)
  4. A menu will appear. Type 1 and press Enter to lock FoxFilter.
  5. Restart your browsers for the lock to take effect.

Mac

  1. Open Terminal (search for it in Spotlight or find it in Applications > Utilities).
  2. Type sudo bash ~/Downloads/foxfilter-lock.sh and press Enter.
  3. Enter your Mac password when prompted. (This is safe — it only updates your browser settings to lock FoxFilter in place.)
  4. A menu will appear. Type 1 and press Enter to lock FoxFilter.
  5. Restart your browsers for the lock to take effect.

Good to Know

  • After locking, Chrome and Edge will show "Managed by your organization" in the browser menu. This is normal and simply means a browser policy is active.
  • FoxFilter Lock works across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on both Windows and Mac.
  • To unlock FoxFilter later, run the tool again and choose option 2.
  • You can also choose option 3 to check the current lock status of each browser.
